Masonry Block Walls Calexico, California

Problem

A bank building in Calexico, California was constructed of unreinforced concrete masonry units presenting significant hazards in the event of seismic activities. The walls needed to be strengthened to be able to withstand the seismic forces. Adding shotcrete to the walls would have added significant weight to the building requiring additional reinforcements to various other locations of the structure. Shotcrete would have also reduced the needed floor space.

Solution

CarbonWrap™ provided a  very attractive and cost effective solution for the client. The additional strength and ductility needed for the building to withstand seismic forces was incorporated into the building without the penalty of adding additional mass, which would have been the case if shotcrete had been used.
